The farm is the corner stone and foundation of everything we do here at Sarah's Petals. It all starts here, and this is where the magic really begins. We have slowly turned an old hay field into blooming rows of flowers that bring such joy!
Hoophouse
Sarah harvesting Chrysanthemums
A peek inside one of the hoophouses. Hoophouses are unheated covered spaces that we use to extend the season and grow plants that might not survive our winters without some protection. This hoophouse has eucalyptus, rosemary, lavender, and chrysanthemums- which we treat as perennials. It does get cold in there in the winter, but the ground never freezes. We have another hoophouse which we use to plant our spring beauties like anemones and ranunculus and Sarah's all-time favorite, lisianthus.
Seed Starting
We start a ton of seeds around here!! Believe it or not the majority of them actually get started in my dining room before they move in the greenhouse. We use the soil blocking method to start most of our seeds. This method allows us to maximize space and I think it produces a very healthy transplant that doesn't get root bound.
Mini Truck
I'm not sure how we ever got by before the mini truck. It gets used everyday on the farm to help transport flowers, tools, trays of plants, sandbags and Nova! During the growing season we usually post a picture every Thursday of the mini loaded up with flowers and bouquets. We had people tell us they looked forward to seeing those pictures every week.
Nova - The Farm Dog
Nova is our farm dog and unofficial mascot. She is always ready to go and loves her time on the farm. She patrols the property looking for mice and other small critters along with her favorite past time of chasing birds.
